Birthday Boy

Malcolm turns one on Friday, but we had his party today. He carried these balloons around all afternoon - he was pretty excited about them!
The big kids sat at the picnic table to eat....
...and the little guys hung out in the living room.
Malcolm had lots of assistance with opening his presents. Good thing, because he was mostly interested in the tissue paper.

It's just like Daddy's tool belt!
Which tool do I need to break into this box?
Every man needs a really big truck!
He doesn't seem too sure about that bear on the cake.....and he wasn't sure what to do with it when we removed it's head for him to eat. After Dobby put a piece in his mouth for him, he warmed up to the idea. Never did make a big mess of himself, though, even with the brown icing, so there are no good shots of him covered in cake. Who knew he'd be the neatest eater of our kids? (Had you seen him last week when we ate lasagna, you would know that that statement isn't actually true!)

Isaiah

This is Isaiah Cameron Falk, our newest little nephew. He's had a bit of a rough start (link to Greg and Becky's blog if you don't know the story), but he's doing great now, and got to come home, finally, yesterday.

The girls are quite proud of their new cousin!
Obviously Olivia, our little fish fanatic, chose the cake design. Contrary to appearances, Isaiah was very excited about it. .....Okay, he didn't care at all, but a good excuse for the rest of us to have ice cream cake! We love you, little buddy!

Captain Ahab and Da Girls

In my long life I have caught but one fish. It was a one pound jack at Emma lake in Northern Saskatchewan. This weekend, after thirty years, I thought I would try again but this time I brought in some special recruits. On Saturday, I took the girls to the Fraser Valley Trout Hatchery for some daddy/daughter bonding time.

As you can see it was very educational. Here the girls are placing items on a flannelgraph to help illustrate the life cycle of a rainbow trout.
Sabrina and Liv were very keen on catching a fish but alas even though I could see the little critters swimming by our hook none of the loser fish took the bait and we went home empty handed (not entirely true since we won a big sticker as a door prize). We vowed to return again later in the summer to claim what is rightfully ours and end my thirty year fish catching drought.

We are determined to win something with Roll up the Rim this time, so everyone's doing their part and drinking a lot of coffee.
We had blueberry pancakes for lunch on Friday when Noah was here - can you tell who enjoyed their blueberries the most?
